Scouting in the Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, is a magical place, in beautiful and extraordinary surroundings and lies between the rivers Wye and Severn.

It is a fantastic location for Scouting, with many miles of forest footpath, walks and dedicated cycle routes. It also has great opportunities for adventurous activities ranging from canoeing miles on the Wye, to climbing and abseiling, raft building and high wire courses, plus networks of caves to explore.

Scouting covers the whole of the Forest of Dean, so there is always someone going wherever you are our District Team hosts a number of district events such as: Water Activity Days, Backwoods Challenge, Cooking Competitions, Swimming/5-a-side/Archery competitions, District Badge weekends, and so on.

Now you're here, explore our website and if you want to find out more please contact us.

District Campsites

Deerpark Campsite

The Forest of Dean District campsite is in a corner of Lydney Deerpark.  It is available for Scout/Guide camps of any duration, even just an overnight stay.  The season starts on Good Friday each year and runs through to August Bank Holiday.  Booking can take place at any time, with a £20 deposit, but we need to give at least 5 weeks' notice of a booking.

Beaver Lodge

Royal Forest Scout Group meet at Beaver Lodge which offers indoor and outdoor residential accommodation. Indoor there is a main hall (which could be used for sleeping in), kitchen, toilets and a leaders room. Outdoors has space for quite a few tents, there's a campfire circle and access to lots of local attractions including the steam railway on the other side of the road!

Gloucestershire Scouts

We are also members of Gloucestershire County Scouts. Throughout Gloucestershire events for young people and adults are organised including a comprehensive training scheme for all our leaders.
